Ryo Tanaka was born in Japan but raised in Southern California. He spent his teenage years playing the electric guitar, hoping to be the next Albert King or John Lee Hooker. Upon his realization in college that he enjoyed the lab experiments but disliked lab reports, he switched his major from Chemistry to English. He is fluent in Japanese.

You may have come across his published poems on literary magazines such as Transcurrent, Chiron Review and Ginosko Literary Journal, or have heard his musical compositions as featured on several short films, local election campaigns, and the podcast series The Hiss which made its public radio debut this winter. He’s currently a keyboard player for Oyster Kids.

So how do you pronounce Ryo?
